I'm attaching (I hope!) screen shots from phone of the relevant menu entries. They are from the "full" rather than "mobile" website, on my phone.

Thanks for trying to find a work around with the email option in the "how to use" section. However I can't see an admin tab to use this facility.

Hi Paul,

What I have seen is that if you have a swap that you can help someone with, I just send them an email, and rather than block up the system with more posts, it can be done in private.

I'm more interested to have the swaps visible to the masses, whichever way that happens. The follow up can be done on its own.

I agree it is very poor that you are not getting much feedback, and paul you have the big picture, so whatever you think is what the majority wants should be done.

Cheers

Bryan

...
What Richard has said paul is basically what I was trying to see. The single day swap is absoloutly fine if you don't swap normally and just want to swap a specific date. The issue is that a lot of pilots who might have been able to swap with you, now won't be bothered to look through the posts to try to figure out what is new or old. The swaps will stop and this place will be worse. This may be an issue. It has been expressed as an issue in slightly different forms by three different people. However, only by three. That's not to say that other people don't feel it's an issue, just that they haven't felt strongly enough about it to say anything yet.

I don't quite understand your point about the email being harder to use than this. I never had to login to my email. I just saw the swaps that were requested, if I could help I would, if I couldn't I would delete it. I have never managed to sort out work emails being forwarded to a normal email account, which means every time I want to check work emails, I have to log in ... first to connected.easyjet and then to emails. Every. Time. This may be down to my inferior email skillz, but this is seriously easier for me. I check work emails a couple of times a day, and it's a faff. I am keeping an eye on this most times I access the internet, and it's easy. Oh, and it doesn't flipping time out after 10 minutes.

Currently the current system promotes pilots posting the same post multiple times to keep it at the top of new posts, but then when you click the post you see every post ever made for the day. It's not too bad now, but what if you have every pilot posting. Nothing is being deleted. There will be a huge amount of posts.... so imagine if all these posts are smeared instead over 8 pages of topics for one month!!!

The Callander option is not available on mobile or Tapatalk, and to be honest paul, I will not use the mobile or web version. It is much harder. Okay, but that means you are choosing an inferior version and then saying it isn't effective! I use the full version on my mobile phone, which being an android is far inferior naturally to an iphone - and yet, I have no problem with calendars, zooming and navigation ... :p

By you posting the dates first, how is that putting them in the Callander? Because I am creating a type of topic that is called an event, which is tagged with a date and calendar title, and is thence placed on the calendar. There's a separate process for creating events.

If pilots were to post individually, but had the date in the subject would that still put them in the Callander? No, but they could create events which could go on the calendar. There are at least three issues with them doing this individually, which sound as though they contradict one another. 1) The calendar ends up cluttered with 15 events for one day. 2) You have to teach people to post events rather than topics ie. use the calendar - it has been hard enough to get people to follow the advice to place their requests in one day! 3) People would not do this naturally by default, so some people's posts would be overlooked by people using the system as it was designed to be used.

Regarding the poll, privacy is not as issue, being able to swap is. And being able to see the post easily with less clutter is the priority to me. I have had almost as much feedback about the issue of privacy as I have about the issues you are raising, and they got in earlier!
As things stand, I really don't get the sense that people are unhappy with what has been set up. But it would be possible to try both, for example, dividing March in two and doing half the way I have set up and half with people writing their own topics for every request. What I really don't want to do though is change things and then have 50 people saying, "Why have you changed it? It was fine as it was!" And whilst everybody is happy to just get on with what we have and most people don't even bother to read the feedback, I have a greater apprehension about that.

You've not commented about the option of sending people emails directly through this, whether that would be useful.

Thanks for the comments. Reaction to this forum has turned out to be pretty muted - people have given me far less grief than I expected (!). A simple question with a click poll about privacy has hitherto only had four votes. The lack of feedback makes it a little difficult to know the best way to move forwards, and at risk of inviting a deluge of frustration (which would at least make clear that things aren't satisfactory), my sense is that it is more accepted than I anticipated it to be - the total number of people who have given feedback in any context is less than 5% of the users.

This system is not the same as the email system. I know there are frustrations associated with that. However, the positives from at least my point of view are: not having to log into the company email (or anything, actually! this stays logged in both on computer and phone) to check for updates; all the options for one date in one place that's directly accessible with one click on the calendar; not having to spend time working out if an email is even relevant to one of my working days (time saving); being able to get automatic notifications about specific days. Again, personally, I find this website is far easier to use as it stands both on phone an on computer than the company website - I agree mobile is everything, and the company website is utterly un-mobile-friendly.  One or two people have expressed a preference for individual posts, but that's all - if a significant number of people were saying the same thing, I'd be happy to do that, though I really can't see how that would make it more usable.

There is functionality within this system to permit people to email other people with details of what they need to swap. I would envisage this being used for "needed" swaps rather than "happy to swap". If people want this, I can explain how to do it. But I'd like to know whether there is any interest in it before setting it up. (Which means, please reply!)

Hello

Have to say I agree with Bryan. Unless you're looking for a very specific swap, you have to trawl through each day. It was a lot easier with the email system when people could just post a general swap request that people could see easily. Although I can see the downside of everyone getting lots of emails.

I'm sure we've all done swaps in the past that make no real difference to our working day, but make a considerable difference to the person looking for the swap. In general I've only picked up these swaps because it came through on the group email. Now we have to go actively looking for swaps that might help out one of our colleagues. Perhaps we can have a general request page too that might help in this situation?

Regards

Richard

Hi Paul,

Just adding to the feedback.

I have been posting myself a few times, and I have had a few messages from pilots that said they would have swapped if they had seen the post.

Personally the full website is a bit to difficult to use on a small iPhone, and as I said before most pilots will only use this forum if t I see easily to hand.

Yea if you are looking for a swap on a particular day, going to the date works, but as I said before, most of my swaps are done with people that aren't looking for a particular day to swap, a lot just saw I was looking, and the emailed me. Here now pilots are not going to spend the time trawling through the individual days looking to help someone.

The current set up would make complete sense years ago when nobody had mobile platforms, but now mobile is everything.

I personally think having each post as an individual would be far easier with the date and request in the subject. It would be the same as when we received emails, and if you don't want to see them, you don't have to look.

I have tried all of the platforms, Tapatalk, mobile view, and web view.

The web view I find very tedious on my phone, and the mobile view and Tapatalk are basically the same, but the app is easier.

Just my two pence worth.

Cheers for putting in the work though, it is appreciated.

Hi, Andy,

The short answer is, no, this platform doesn't allow you to put the topics in date order (or any order other than the most recent at the top). However, if you go in via the "Calendar" in the bar in the browser above, you can go to specific days that you are interested in. So the idea is, if you're thinking to yourself "I'd like to swap my duty on 9th February", you go to the calendar, click on "Capt Swaps" event for 9th February and it takes you where you need to go. You can avoid going to the list of topics or the menu system at all. I don't think that the mobile front end or Tapatalk support the calendar directly, though on a mobile device you can choose to go to the full site. Also, if you've registered on here, then whether you have posted on the thread or not, you can choose to receive notifications about it by email directly, which (at risk of exposing underlying nerd) is pretty neat.

There's no problem with having roster group threads; your roster group can already be included in your profile, if you happen to know it. Is the thinking behind this that you can then swap a whole block of earlies for lates with someone in a specific other group? What might be most useful is a post which talks about which group is which and what they can do with other groups. Another aspect of it is the whole nature of groups has been transformed in the last few years - with people working different part time structures and flexi - I'm not totally convinced it's that helpful. But if we can find the information, we can give it a go.

Also, I hope it's okay for me to move this to the feedback folder ...

Could we also set-up roster group threads to make life easier?

Agreed. Common sense ehh?!

I've tried to swap on a few occasions.. has never worked for me as there's always been a "violation" of sort...

Roster Group threads (in date order) would make it relevant and easier to navigate. People like me (kids and not a lot of time to sift through) might participate.. more players, more options for everyone!

Cheers,
Brij ;)

Is it not possible to have the days of the month in order? It's extremely time consuming to find the day you're looking for in the current format! Thanks, Andy
